Anyone use SCM recommendations almost exclusively?

Just curious if anyone plans their year using using the SCM free curriculum guide and SCM recommended resources exclusively, or almost exclusively. I sooooo want to jump all in and just follow the recommendations on the guide but I am terrified. It seems too simple. Anyone have great success stories keeping things simple?

I almost do 🙂 I started out trying different things, but as the years have continued I have settled into many SCM materials and been very happy with the results.

    History – SCM History Guides

Geography – SCM Visits to… series

Language Arts – SCM Using Language Well and Spelling Wisdom (along with oral and written narrations)

We also use SCM poetry guides, hymn study, picture study portfolios, Composure study. Oh and Delightful Reading level 2 for my youngest.

The only place we really branch out are for math (Math U See), and Apologia for science. The new SCM science guides for elementary look really good, but we enjoy Apologia and it is nice to have just one book for science with so many other books for other subjects.

We have at times, followed it to a T (or close to it).  Mostly I make changes when I want to work with materials we already own.  This year we are using a mix of SCM and Memoria Press, because I like their materials for my older DC.  I always start with the SCM free planning guide when I’m planning my year, so even when we use other materials, we are using that as our guide.  We’ve been doing this for the last 5 years or so.
