This is a pretty expensive magazine, but it looks really good. I am thinking about subscribing, but with 3 kids in very different age groups, I am just wondering if you think it is worth it?

We subscribed a few years ago using http://www.homeschoolbuyersco-op.org/ and got a substancial discount but it does not look like they have a special on it now.  We honestly did not use them much. I only have 2 at two very different levels, and for me it was just too much to try try to have both of them do seperate magazines.  We had so many other things we were trying to accomplish that God’s World News just got shoved onto the back burner most og the time.  They do seem to be great magazines but they ended up just not being practical for us. Both my kids were young enough at that point to need me to help them read it b/c my oldest was a slow reader and is dyslexic. If you have older kids, able to do it on their own, or even can pair an older student up with a younger to help then it may work better.

I kinda felt guilty for not using somethign I had spent the money on, but in the end I decided, it was more important that they have a good solid Biblical basis and critical thinking skills, that way they can hold up to the news they hear and learn to critique it themselves.

We take 4 subscriptions at diff levels for each kid. We really enjoy these. You can also get a discount if you’re a member of Hslda.

I thought they were good, but we quit when our subscription ended. My jr hi dd had enough work on her plate that I really had to thin ‘non-necessary’ items out of her schedule. I just try to make an effort talk about current events as they come up…which is actually more current than the news they receive from a monthly magazine:)

Just to add, I don’t “do” anything with the God’s World News. My kids read and enjoy them and we discuss the topics naturally. We take Early Edition, News Flash, News Current, Top Story, and World magazine. They’ve been a welcome addition to our house for years. I don’t plan out lessons with them or anything, but simply use them as reading/discussion material.

DD12 and ds9 read http://www.studentnewsdaily.com also. DD12 does further work with current events, too.

ETA – we order with co-op, so the price is substantially discounted. I order up because the levels are too low for my kids. Early Edition is marketed for 1st-2nd grade, but I buy it for ds3.5.

We subscribed a couple years ago.  I was disapointed in the younger aged issues…they didn’t have much “meat” to the articles.  It felt like a lot to spend on pictures with a couple puzzles.   My oldest was in 4th at the time and those issues were much better, but she never read them on her own.  For what I spent on 3 issues, I didn’t feel like we got our money’s worth.

I definitely prefered it over National Geographic Kids.  Those were one long ad for upcoming cartoons.

We didn’t do anything with it, when we subscribed, either. We usually kept it at the table and discussed articles as we passed it around. What I liked about it was that occasionally my husband and I had read the same topics in articles in the newspaper, so it was nice that the children could contribute to those conversations.

We enjoyed it, but it’s too pricey, I think.
