Anyone schedule HOD in the Organizer?

I know this is probably a long shot question because Heart of Dakota is already scheduled day by day……but I am wondering if anyone uses the Organizer to schedule HOD and if you run your days a bit differently than planned out in the HOD guide.

We are using HOD Creation to Christ this year

mostly because I love the books.  (I also really like the history notebooking—-it’s a combination of copywork and written narration.)   I am trying to decide if it would be workable to schedule the books in the Organizer along with the notebooking and some of the hands on things (we’ve already skipped one history project) because the daily schedule of HOD is not working well for me. I’ve not ever really done well with a totally pre-planned schedule, though I was hoping it might be different this time.  Embarassed

If we don’t get to science or poetry (or whatever) one day, I know that if I use the Organizer, then those assignments will be there waiting for us the next time.  We school year round so that we can take breaks, go on impromptu field trips and seize the day with other opportunities that come along.  Smile  So I’d like to have more flexibility in our scheduling of HOD—-but I’m not sure if that would work or be optimal with the way some assignments relate to others  OR if it would be entirely too much work to input into the organizer with enough specifics to make it understandable.

So……again, asking just in case someone out there has done this and has any advice or tips.  OR if anyone uses HOD and is familiar with the scheduling and has any thoughts to share, please do.  (We use different English and Math than HOD and schedule that independently already.)

    Thanks,

    Kim

Hi teachermom, I am a former HOD user and a former CM organizer user, although just not at the same time!  That said, I think that you have a wonderful idea! I think that you could easily schedule your resources in the CM organizer and then go at your own pace throughout the year.  That would eliminate the flipping back and forth through the HOD manual which always made me crazy!  In fact, if I had thought of this myself, I might have even stuck with HOD a bit longer!Wink

    Hope this helps!

I’m not a HOD user, but it sounds like this resource is similar to some of the other ones I’ve just recently scheduled on CMO.  What Sonya suggested was to label each chapter title (or unit title) and in the title list whatever else goes along with it.  For example, in my resource Chapter 3 might be Rome goes to War, so along with that I listed to read out of the secondary book and pages, do the question at the end of the chapter, and turn in writing assignment.  I also listed if a chapter would take more than one week.

So, each day this all would come up for the assignment and my daughter would check “worked on” until Friday when she could finally click “completed” if she did it all.

You could also add a note to the day’s assignment, but that can’t be done until the day of the assignment.  I believe they are working on making this option accessible so that you can make a note with each assignment before the day of the assignment.  I hope this helps!  Betty

    Thank you Heather and Betty!

I’m going to continue to think on it.
