Are geographical land forms taught? Map reading or using a compass?
MonicaParticipantNone of those things were covered in the Visits to that I did (North America).
Missy OHParticipantThank you. 🙂
missceegeeParticipantVisits series is great for map drill exercises and culture, but here are some simple books useful for those aspects of geography.
Charlotte Mason’s Elementary Geography
Home Geography for the Primary Grades by C.C. Long
As the Crow Flies by Gail Hartman
Geography from A to Z by Jack Knowlton
Maps and Globes by Jack Knowlton
Me on the Map by Joan Sweeney
luveezmumParticipantThanks for that helpful list, Christie!
HollySParticipantWe’re using The Geography Book next year and it covers much of those things. We’ll be doing one lesson a week. There are 38 lessons, so we’ll end up skipping a couple. I only found one lesson that contained evolution/old earth creationism (it was on continental drift). I came across the book in the CM Bookfinder and it looked like something my DC would love: https://apps.simplycharlottemason.com/resources/detail/74357
Missy OHParticipantMissceegee, Great book list! I’ve used the last three with my older kids, and will have to get them again. I will check out the other ones.
Holly, I didn’t know I needed The Geography Book. It’s going in my cart. What a fun book! We are scheduling geography to be done on dad’s day off, and he is a hands on learner so this will be perfect for him to use along with our Visits to America. Thanks for sharing!
