    Hello Ladies,

I have been looking at both EpiKardia and Queens HighSchool 2.  From what I can see online, they seem to cover the same items in a similar fashion, though I haven’t been able to see either of these in person.  Has anyone on here compared the two side-by-side or used both items?

We used Queens HighSchool 1 this year for dd 17 and dd 15, and they really like the layout.  I am just wondering if there is enough difference between EK and Q to recommend one over the other.

Thanks for any help you can give,

    *tap *tap *tap  Buehler?  Anybody?

Hi I have not used Queens so I cannot compare, but we loved the Epi Kardia Essay and Research Paper courses, it was thorough, easy to implement and the girls can now turn out really good papers….so for what it is worth I can highly recommend it. Linda

Thanks for the review and recommendation, Linda. That’s what I need – an easily implemented program that results in a good end product. Smile

blue j…I don’t know. I am looking at the same programs myself. Maybe we will get other opinions. 🙂 Queens looks very interesting to me.

I have recently seen Queen’s and to be honest I liked the Epi Kardia better, it seemed to be a little more suitable for a college future…just my opinion, but we have had great success with it, and it will be one of those books I keep always, because it will not date and will be useful should the girls have children. I like all of the Epi Kardia products, don’t bog us down with busy work, and get the job done in a way that is parent and student friendly. The girls like the fact that they could just get on with it, and not bother me until it was time to mark or discuss something. It is a really good course and thorough. I showed it to someone I know who is a retired English Professor and he was impressed with EpiKardia and he also checked some of the girls essays after they had written them using the course – he had very little to critique and said they were wonderfully crafted and that the course obviously worked – so that for me was good enough. Sadly he has now passed away, but his thoughts were most helpful to us.

missingtheshire….thanks for the input. I couldn’t figure out from the website…is EpiKardia’s essay course a full year? If I use their essay course for 9th, what would you recommend to follow that course?

Epi Kardia Essay is a full year course, and then after that we used their Research paper and Public Speaking courses which are a semester each. For the final two years, we had planned another research paper and lots of essays using the techniques they had learned in the essay course. That way they have extra practise on the compare/contrast and persuasive essay types along with the easier essays…I let them choose topics or we use topics from their history and literature courses. Does that help?

Ah, you’ve answered another of my questions I’ve been mulling… how good/ teacher & student friendly is the Research course.  Thank you so much, Linda.  Working with my oldest two students helped me to know what I don’t want to use with the younger three.  You have just pointed me in the direction I do want to go.

    Thank you.

missingtheshire – How full is the Epikardia Essay schedule? Is it 36 weeks of 5 days per week? (I don’t have my guide in hand yet.)
