I have Our Mother Tongue and was interested in using it for my oldest dd but there are no answers in the book.  Does anyone know if there is an answer book, or even better, somewhere where I can download answers for the course?

    Thanks,

    Linda

I just found the answer key at Amazon. Search for “Our Mother Tongue: A GUide to English Grammer Answer Key” or Google the same and Amazon will come up first (at least it did for me). It’s authored by Nancy Wilson, too.

Are you doing Latin alongside OMT? Just curious…

I purchased the OMT answer key from amazon also; its very helpful!

Rachel, I just responded to your PM. Hope you get some good responses about doing Latin alongside OMT. Smile

Wow, Sonya! Thanks for answering my question so quickly.

We have gently started narration.  While we do our family Bible Time I have the boys narrate the story, then when we read the suggested books from 106 Days, and any book he is reading independently (and he always has a book these days, yeah!) I ask him what is going on in the book or he just gives me snippets here and there from what he finds funny or interesting.  I have to say that he is my child that has a difficult time with verbal expression so any narration that I can tell he’s put effort into I accept.  Even just trying to say what is on his mind can be difficult, let alone something he has read and now you want him to retell it, ugh! He had me guessing in the beginning of the school year if he was dyslexic.  I just couldn’t understand how he could confuse such simple words over and over while he read aloud.  It was very frustrating, to say the least. I have learned patience and that he just needed more foundational skills and me getting off his back.  He can become overwhelmed with too much information in printed form.  But, he has been on the upswing with his reading skills and  his interest in reading has soared tremendously this past year.  I am exposing him to better literature and just trying to always encourage him without overwhelming him.  Also, his dad has never been an avid reader so I’m trying to go against predisposed DNA, lol.  I am proud of my sons improvements and this is one area where I can’t push or he’ll withdraw and I don’t want that:)

I was just thinking that there was something else we should be doing since in the pschools the students would definitely be doing textbook style lang. arts. We are part of a charter and they do expect a sample ever so often, but I can work around that.

I’m going to reread your post and take your advice regarding the AG, and make plans for next years goals.  I really appreciate your imput.

Good point on the Daily Grams.  Have never thought of it in that way.  I was just looking at the portability of it and the fact that there aren’t any colors, bells and whistles or long lessons to overwhelm him.  But, I suppose with the good book choices, SW, read alouds/narration and whatever else we’re doing we really don’t need the other.

Hmmm…I’m going to rethink a few things and thank you again for your imput.

What’s funny is that the lady who acts as our overseer through the charter told me to ditch the lang art curriculum as well.  She has a very open mind about how we hs and is always encouraging our *parent-led* freedom in this school.  And, she loves all of our CM samples/books, etc. and usually picks up some of the books/ideas for her own children:)

Sonya, Thank you so much for you thoughts on JAG/AG, the grades used, and dividing JAG into two grades. It is so helpful to get the info about how you did it with your children. I do appreciate all the work you put into SCM, the curriculum guide and your active input on the forums! Such a blessing to have this mapped out for a guide for ppl like me to use. Take Care.
