Okay, I know that this question HAS to have been asked before.  LOL!  I am following the recommendations on the curriculum guide pretty much exclusively.  This is what we do.  I am doing a first grade year with my 6 year old son.  We do school in the afternoons while the 2 year old is sleeping.

Math:  Math U See Primer M-F

    Science:  106 Days M W F

Beginning Reading:  100 Easy Lessons M-F

Copywork:  Handwriting W/out Tears 1st grade, less than or one page M W F

Personal Dev:  A Child’s Book of Character Building, Book 1 M-Th

Foreign Language:  First Steps Espanol, free videos from SCETV, once weekly

    Hist/Geo/Bible:  Module 1, M-F

Scripture Mem: using our AWANA verses, M-F

    Literature:  Module 1

Poetry: Stevenson, Milne this year, T/F

Hymn, Music, Nature, Picure Study:  once weekly.  Listen to composer everyday

Written out like that, it seems like enough, but we are done with everything in about two hours.  I feel like I’m not adding in enough stuff.  Last year we did Sonlight p4/5 for K year, and I felt like we read a whole lot more books in an hour and a half.  Is that just a big difference?  I just feel like I need to be doing MORE!  Or maybe it’s I feel like we should be reading more books. . . anybody else feel this way with a first grade?

    Thanks so much,

    Jenn

He’s getting plenty.  It looks like a great schedule.  As long as he has plenty of time for real play and time outside for play and nature study, he will be lightyears ahead of most children his age.  You’re doing great.

You are doing enough!  If you and your child want to read more books, then you should, but not out of guilt Laughing.

Jenn, you’re doing fine. If it makes you feel any better, Charlotte read from about two books a day with her first graders. The rest of the time was spent in oral and hands-on activities. Here are some examples. (Books are marked with an asterisk for easy counting.) By the way, they started at 9:00 and finished at 11:30. Smile

Monday: *Old Testament, Printing, Work on memorizing a poem, French, Number (math), Swedish Drill or Dancing, *Reading, Science

Tuesday: *New Testament, Drawing, Memorizing a parable, Picture Study, Handicrafts, Singing, Play, Number, *Reading

Wednesday: Writing, *Reading, French, Number, Swedish Drill or Dancing, Handicrafts, *Geography

Looks great to me, alhough I’d do something on your 2nd language more than once a week….

We did last year Yr1 and it was about 2 hours (+ violin practice) and some of that was spent doin a year K with my 2nd oldest.

Jenn, I was also going to say that your schedule looks strangely identical to the school year we just completed, so I’d say you’re doing great! The only difference is that we didn’t do foreign language, so you’re actually one step ahead!

    Blessings to you,

    Lindsey
