We are using Visits to series and loving it, but I’m looking for alternatives to Material World & Hungry Planet. I realize the pictures are a huge part of it, but my kidds do not enjoy the reading. I wonder if anyone has suggestions.

The readings are a bit much for my kids, so I shorten them and focus on the pictures.

DK put out several books that fit well with this ‘getting to know another country’ theme.  Children Just Like Me, Children Just Like Me: Celebrations, A School Like Mine, and A Life Like Mine are the titles that I can remember.  I used those with my younger kids when we did our geography and world cultures family study last year.

We used some of the Kids of Courage activity books with Visits to Africa, but they are mostly countries in Africa, Asia, and the Middle East.

We have been using Window on The World: When We Pray, God Works.  It is the kids version of Operation World.
