My girls and I are not loving Sailing Alone around the The World – any suggestions for a substitute?

Born in the Breezes is a picture book about Slocum. I have it, but haven’t read it. It seems much more approachable. We read Stowaway by Karen Hesse instead.

I was prepared to switch to Stowaway before we even started Sailing Alone based on previous feedback.  Maybe it is because I am originally from New England and have ancestors from Nova Scotia, etc. that I have foundi it (surprisingly) very readable, in spite of all the nautcal verbiage.  Even more surprising is that my two 10th graders and one 5th grader are listening without protest.  I am actually receiving more resistance to reading Master Skylark, but we are pressing on!  🙂
