    What are some fun family things you do with kids?  Mine are ~11 and ~13.  I’m getting tired of my tried and true fall backs.  I want new things to entice family fun.  This group is always so good at lists!  What are some things you do in the evenings to pass the time as a family?  What about weekends?  The more spontaneous the better!  Board games?  What else keeps a family centered on famliy but still is appealing fun for tweens and teens?

    Our (feeling lame) List:

    • Chess

    • Board games (we REALLY need some new ones in this category)

    • Watching PBS Nature or Nova curled up in “the big bed”

    • Walks

    • Park explores

    • G/PG movies

    • Baking cookies, etc.

    • A good read aloud

    I don’t feel too excited about any of them!!  Anymore.  Help!!

    *Keep in mind I am not thinking of the “big” stuff you do as a family.  More how do you pass the time in the evenings and the down time on the weekends?

    Crafts

    • I find lots of ideas on Pinterst

    • my 11yo loves to sculpt with oven-bake clay

    • they teach each other how to draw, sew, or sculpt specific things

    • they do drawing contests

    • latch-hooking

    We watch silly youtube videos…although there are lots of inappropriate ones as well, so you have to be careful with this

    Board game favorites here are: Go Fish, Memory, Settlers of Catan (for the older ones), Headbandz, Uno

    Puzzles–we’ll work on a big puzzle as a family

    We love to visit local parks/playgrounds, and this time of year the apple orchards

    We recently started listening to audiobooks once a week while working on a big puzzle. it’s been a big hit and we only listen to the books with Dad, helping everyone look forward to it.
