It has become painfully obvious to me that we are not going to finsh PLL with my 9 1/2 yr. old this year, which ends in August. In looking thorugh the the content, I don’t think I want to skip the major parts. I had planned to move into ILL this Fall with him, but we’ve been woefully neglectful of this for 2 years for various reasons; very inconsistant.

Is it a big deal? Or should I just move on into ILL anyway? I don’t want to skip over important writing/sentence structures concepts, letter writing, etc…but perhaps he’ll get his stuff eventually and I should move on? I’m torn and uneasy about skipping in this area. We do 95% of orally anyway, but I wanted to start him writing more.

Any opinions, please. He’ll be 10 in the Fall. Other items in the LA arena that he will also be doing are Latin, Spelling Wisdom and copywork. I was also thinking about having him re-write a James Baldwin paragraph occasionally.

    Rachel,

When we did PLL with my daughter, I didn’t do every single lesson anyway.  I picked and chose as we went through it.  I also didn’t finish the book with her.

So I think that you could go either way as you feel most comfortable:  stay with PLL or move on to ILL.  If you want to stay with PLL, you could just pick out the lessons that you find to be most valuable.  But if you want to move on to ILL, I think that would be okay because there are more opportunities for writing in that book.

    Just my 2 cents,

    Tanya
