Hello!  Just popping in to introduce myself.

We’re a Canadian French/English/ASL family.  We’ve been using a heavily modified AO for the past six years, but I’ve decided to make the switch to SCM.  I just bought the first two history modules while they were on sale, so I guess we’re commited to at least two years! Wink  I find the SCM approach very refreshing, and I’m really looking forward to the upcoming school year.

My husband and I (we’ve been married fourteen years today! Smile) have seven children, five girls and two boys.  The oldest four will be in years 7, 6, 4, (three girls) and 2 (a boy).

I’m looking forward to getting to know you all!

Welcome from a fellow Canadian!  And happy anniversary!  We are in NS. We have a small family- just my dh and I (married 17 years next month) and 2 boys.  The oldest is 12 and a half, and the younger will be 9 this Sunday.  You will really enjoy SCM and the great people on this forum!

    Bonsoir!! Bienvenue!

I am also French Canadian, been living in the US for over 20 years, all over the states, we are now in CT. My husband is from Italy.

Our 4 boys speak English and French, not much Italian.

Thank you for the warm welcome!

Suzukimom, I recognize you 🙂  And now I understand your kids’ nicknames.

Petitemom, do you school in French?  We do a bit of both, but it’s so much easier to find resources in English.

Welcome! We have enjoyed SCM a great deal and I think you and your family will find much enjoyment here as well.

We are Canadian as well and are currently living in Alberta. We have 3 beautiful children. Dd 11, ds 8, and dd almost 7.

We do only French in French!!

I did look for resources in French and found NOTHING!

I searched for homeschooling sites in Quebec and I found only one, wrote an e-mail and never got a response.

I did not want to teach French as a second language since my kids already spoke it.

I looked for material French speaking kids use to learn how to read and write(although we didn’t do much writing so far).

I had to ask my aunt who is a teacher to help me because on line I saw nothing like that.

I would be curious to know what you found!

    I hope you stick around!

Happy Anniversary & welcome to the forum! We’re Americans “south of the pond” (on the southern shores of Lake Erie, to be precise), and we’ve been using CM methods & SCM guidance for 3-4 years now. (I guess I’ve lost track of the time!) I hope you find what you need & lots of suggestions here.

Linabean, I grew up in Northern Alberta :).  I miss the sky…

@petitemom, I’ve found some good resources here: http://www.lalibrairiedesecoles.com/.  Picouic & Tigrelin from that site is a big favourite here.  And we use some library books.  I could try to make a list of our French books for you this week.  It’s fun to find a French Canadian here!

I’m glad you are here too! 🙂

So you order those books from Paris? If so how is the shipping?

I buy a lot of books when we go to Quebec in the summer, my aunts and mom buy a lot for us too.

Last year that is all we have been doing for French, reading.

My 12 year old improved a lot. He read “Le petit prince”, (love that book) I was proud of him.

My 10 year old prefers comic books, thankfully we have really good ones in French!

I do not think I’ll be teaching reading in French to my 6 years old yet !?!

If I decide to go into writing and grammar I’ll have to look for something.

I do have 3 books called “Je lis!” my aunt got me a couple of years ago, we might try that also this year.

I guess there are not too many people homeschooling in Quebec because it is next to impossible to find what they would use! I need to ask a friend of mine this summer who is French Canadian, homeschooling in Ontario.

Our family uses Mission ABC with plans to follow through with all the levels of Mission Monde. The author is Canadian. Do any of you use it, or is their no need? 🙂

I think someone posted about this before, forgot about it!

I would have absolutely no idea at what level my kids would be but I’ll keep that in mind as an option!

    thanks for sharing!
