I’m sorry if my wording sounded critical. I used curriculum for years with our older children with great fear, frustration, fatigue, and failure. Basically, it’s been freeing to be able to simply have our youngest enjoy learning with the Bible, living books, and outdoor play. My point was that, especially on a tight budget, you should never feel like you won’t be providing enough if living books and nature study are all that are available for science (any subject really). In all honesty, our older children require more time and instruction (read conversation and lengthy discussion) which leaves very little time for me to devote to a curriculum for her. So, we read books together and she shares her joy with all of us when a seed grows in the garden, puppies are born, leaves and flowers bloom, tadpoles are caught….the list goes on.
Please know that if a guide works for you, I admire you for being able to stick to it and enjoy it with your children. I’m intimidated by them, quite frankly because I can’t seem to decide to delete what won’t work for us and not feel like I’m failing. Living books let me off the hook until later when more serious studies are taking place.
I pray we all feel comfortable with where God leads each of us and our families on this journey. I hope to be more careful with my wording from now on as I truly only mean to encourage each person on this forum. I’ve always enjoyed the varied opinions and graceful way in which they are shared.
Blessings,
