Call for Writers: SCM American History Project

We all know how hard it is to find a good living book that relates American history from 1900–2010. Well, we would like to do something about that, and we would love for you to join us. Here’s the idea.

What if we in the CM community pool our love for good stories and our knowledge of recent American history? Maybe one person can’t write the entire book, but many of us have areas of interest and could write living stories about those events at least.

We’re willing to organize and fund the project, do the editing and production, and then publish the final book.

What we need are a few history buffs who would like to contribute a chapter (or more) about their favorite American people and events of 1900–2010. We will compile the best submissions and add them into a living history book for all of us to enjoy.

And if we choose your material for the final book we’ll pay you for it and give you credit as a contributor.

[Edited: Submissions are closed.]

Wouldn’t it be great if we all worked together to create a living American history book that includes the recent years!

  1. When do you expect this book to be for sale? I am anxious for it and wonder if I should stop reading This Country Of Ours to my daughter and wait for yours to come out? I love the sample you have on the site!!!

    • We ended up having to split the book into two volumes. We’re hoping the first volume, covering Columbus through the Alamo (around 1850), will be ready spring of 2011. The second volume, covering Civil War through present day, should be ready near the end of the year 2011.
