Yes, for obedience and also for foolishness, foolish pursuits, living for immediate pleasure (I could make a crack about acting like a donkey, but I guess I”ll pass).
We’re enjoying Ralph Moody’s Little Britches series right now, along with Bambi by Felix Salten. Recently finished Stuart Little, too. We plan to start Timothy of the Cay to go along with our upcoming mission trip to Dominica in the Caribbean.
We are currently reading The Return of the King, but keep in mind my children are 16, 14, and 10 (and the 19 and 21 year old listen in when they can, too.;) )
My have also enjoyed The Great Turkey Walk – the older ones requested that we visit that one again soon (dd 16 has heard it read 3 times already and she was the first to suggest it again).
Others –
Rascal Carry On, Mr. Bowditch (this is a hands down favorite of our entire family) All of the Narnia Books Heidi Ida Early Comes Over the Mountain (and all the others in the series)
We just finished Wind in the WIllows and all my children (ages 8 6 5 & 3) loved it and begged for me to keep reading. Even my three year old answered a couple of questions when asked about it! Now we are on to Black Beauty for my girls and then Peter Pan for the boys (at their requests) but I’m always glad to get other ideas!
My kids are 8 and 11. We are enjoying Heidi (easy read, but we’ve never read it before and it’s fun:) Also loved Black Beauty and Robin Hood this year. My 8yo son loved Robin Hood so much as a read aloud that he’s reading it as a free read now:) Gina
Hi, I wanted to mention one that I just read to my 6 and 9 year old daughters (and my husband loved it too!) – The Wolves of Willoughby Chase by Joan Aiken. Excellent alternative-history novel, scary in places but with a very satisfying conclusion.
We are reading through Wheel on the School as recommended from previous posts here. My kids love it, and it is perfect for this year as we are studying birds.
