We’ve done many Thornton Burgess “Adventures of” for science read-aloud. We still haven’t read them all (though we plan to continue) but I would really like to mix it up a bit and thinking Jim Arnosky’s books would be a perfect fit. But there are SO many! How to narrow it down? Please help me out by telling me your top Jim Arnosky book(s). Many thanks, Angie
The Crinkleroot books are a lot of fun. Not so much the 25 animals, trees, series, but once like Crinkleroot’s Guide to the Trees, ….Animal Tracks. Many are out of print, but my library has a bunch.
We’ve enjoyed all of his picture books; his drawings are terrific! We also have some of the Crinkleroot Guide’s which are fun. We tried a chapter book, The Pirates of Crocodile Swamp, but put it aside as some of the content was not ok for our younger kids. DD12 finished it and said it was ok, but had the aforementioned content issue and wasn’t on par with the animal picture books.
Thank you, Christie! Your comment is one of my top reasons for loving this forum. The info on the chapter book will come in very handy when my kids fall in love with Arnosky’s books and beg for more… I will definitely do my research before I just go to his chapter books. Will stick first to the picture books and will take note of the chapter book title you mentioned. If you have a moment to share a few details on the questionable content, I would be interested to know.
