Looking for ideas for your favorite, family-friendly audio dramas and books. I’m already familiar with Adventures in Oddysey and have heard that the Lamplighter audios are very good as well, but looking for other ideas and sources too. My oldest is 5 so looking for the sorts of things that would be interesting and appropriate for her while still being interesting for dh and I. We will be doing a lot of travelling during the upcoming year and I’d like to start collecting some good quality stuff to enjoy in the car along the way. =)
Our family listens to audios daily. You mentioned Adventures in Odyssey, so have you also tried Radio Theatre by Focus on the Family? The Chronicles of Narnia is probably our favorite…excellent. Anne of Green Gables, Little Women, The Secret Garden… My 4 yo listens to all of these. They also have Father Gilbert mysteries (older children), Billy Bud-Sailor, Squanto, Ben Hur, Silas Marner and several more. We also love (from ages 2 thru my husband) Hank the Cowdog (hilarious), Paws and Tales, The Pond, Down Gilead Lane, and Johnathon Park. We get unabridged classics from the library and Listen to Radio Classics on XM Radio. I, personally, am addicted to Gunsmoke, Sherlock Holmes, Johnny Dollar, and many of the comedies. Also, Homeschool Radio Shows has some great downloads for free. My 4yo loved Cinderella, of course. I realize some of these may not be appropriate for some families, but with the exception of the Father Gilbert, all of my children (ages 2 – 15) listen to the stories listed. Oh, I forgot Jungle Jam and Friends! No child needs to miss out on Millard the Monkey. :0).
I love this site…old radio shows! We just listened to some stuff on Columbus. They always offer a great variety and it’s super easy to download (to a cd, pc, phone).
