10 Mistakes Parents Make with Teenagers-Jay Kesler (I actually finished this one yesterday)
John Adams-McCullough
And my easy reading, just for warm fuzzies, right before bed read is When Calls the Heart by Janette Oke. It’s an old favorite.
Mansfield Park is slow going. I’m working my way through a few Jane Austen books that I’ve yet to read and I started here. I’m several chapters in and still having trouble keeping everyone straight! I’m a big Austen fan and Pride and Prejudice and Emma are my favorites. I also like Sense and Sensibility, though the ending seems a bit rushed. The jury is still out on Mansfield Park. 🙂
I enjoyed the first few chapters of Boundaries but not it’s gotten into a bit of modern psychology and I am skimming it, hoping it will take a turn for the better again.
Trusting God is excellent! Jerry Bridges has become one of my new favorite authors. I just finished The Pursuit of Holiness and it was fabulous as well.
I found the book on teenagers to be very helpful. It’s a bit outdated and I highly disagree with a couple of chapters and several points he makes but I feel the overall message is an important one. I wish I had given this book a bit more credit when my son was a teen.
John Adams is great! McCullough is a great author. I’m looking forward to reading his other writings in the future.
When Calls The Heart is good as always. I love Janette Oke and have read most of her books multiple times. They are sweet and homey and comforting.
I am reading the high school books for Early Modern Times. The Autobiography of Ben Franklin is really interesting…although I’m terribly behind on the readings! Teaching from Rest was a great homeschool read. For fun reading, I like just about anything from Bethany House. Our old library always had a few of them in their new books display. I’ve recently read a few modern books and young adult novels, but nothing I care to recommend. 🙁 John Grisham’s Gray Mountain was off to a promising start, but I lost my copy in the chaos of moving.
I am at chapter 8 in Lynn Austin’s Return to Me. Someone here mentioned their high schooler was reading it as part of their ancient history study. I am enjoying it, and hope to my my oldest read it when she’s studying ancient history again.
I’m reading Mere Motherhood by Cindy Rollins. Enjoying it.
Also reading some fun lit – books by Sarah M. Eden. She’s one of my favorite authors so I read her new book, A Fine Gentleman, and am rereading several more of her books.
I’m burned out on all things school related. I’ve been reading candy books in different genres – historical romance, thriller, mystery. The problem with those is that I read them fast and don’t recall details.
On my TBR shelf are The Kitchen House, The Life We Bury, the sequel to Wonder.
I am reading a number of things simultaneously, but two books I’d recommend that I’ve just read are Made for More: An Invitation to Live in God’s Image, and Humble Roots, both by Hannah Anderson.
I’m also re-reading Knowledge of the Holy by A.W. Tozer, which I try to read every year.
I posted earlier but it seems to be caught in the spam trap for some reason.
Tristan-I’d love to hear more about Mere Motherhood. I’ve been wanting to read it.
SandraK-I find myself not enjoying Marrin’s books. I purchased a few recently after years of hearing how great they are but my daughter and I are finding that he is not our cup of tea. My son would have really enjoyed his books though. All of that gory detail would appeal more to him than to us girls.
Holly-Glad to hear you are enjoying Franklin’s autobiography. It’s on my to read list.
I just read a children’s historical fiction called Little Duchess by emma brock about Ann of Brittany…certainly a living book! I remember so many details about her life and I didn’t even remember her before😁 I am excited to read it for history when we get there!
I just finished the Charlotte Mason Companion, Say Goodbye to Whining Complaining and and Bad Attitudes in you and your kids (Got this from a mom on this site that was answering another mom about something? It was a quite a while ago, but such an excellent book!), and very close to finishing For the Children’s sake. (2nd time reading.)
I am reading Vol 5, Charlotte Mason book, on Formation of Character for book club.
I had my first vegetable garden last year and very interested in the ‘no till’ methods of gardening. I finished, The Ruth Stout No-Work Garden in about two days. An amazing book for organic gardening and I even laughed out loud. Love this lady. She is plethora of knowledge, now deceased, but lived until her late 90s. The book was published in 1970’s. Great book!
I am also reading Seeds of Deception (Got this from the Audio book I am listening to right now, Pigness of Pigs. ** Heard about Pigness of Pigs from Robin on this sight and this book is amazing!) which about GMOs and all that comes with that. 🙁
Lastly, I am reading Heartfelt Discipline by Clay Clarkson. Really enjoying this book too.
On docket: Teaching from Rest, Tom Sawyer, and Joey and Rory
Don’t know what happened to my post, so I am sorry if my post is here twice!
I just finished The Charlotte Mason Companion and Say Goodbye to Whining, Complaing, and Attitudes in You and Your Kids by Scott Turansky. (I heard about this book from this site; another mom answered a post and I decided to check it out. It was quite a while ago.) And I am almost done with, For the Children’s Sake. (For the 2nd time. It was my first homeschooling book I read, when my now almost 8 year old son was 3. I loved it then, but couldn’t imagine accomplishing this at home. So fun to read now, while we are in the midst of applying CM methods in our home.:-)
I am reading Vol 5 of the Charlotte Mason books, Formation of Character, for book club.
I just started my first vegetable garden last year and I’m and getting excited by the nice weather in Colorado. I am interested in organic, no-till gardening. I just finished reading, The Ruth Stout No-Work Garden Book in two nights! Such a good book and such a plethora of information. This lady was a pistol and I laughed out loud a few times, pretty funny considering it is a book on gardening.:-) She died in her late 90s and the book was published in the 1970s.
I am almost done with the Seeds of Deception by Jeffrey Smith. This is about GMOs:-( I heard about this book from an audio book I am listening to right now; Pigness of Pigs. (Heard about Pigness of Pig from Robin on this site, and thoroughly love this book!)
Lastly, I am reading Heartfelt Discipline by Clay Clarkson. Enjoying this also.
On docket; Teaching from Rest, Tom Sawyer, and Joey and Rory
I enjoy hearing what everyone is reading and I have received so many good book reads from this site!
