I purchased the Business Math programs for my dc (10 and 8) to do as their summer math. Then I asked my dd (10) to write about it on my blog. Let me assure you that we have STRUGGLED with math over the years. She is convinced it is hard and that she isn’t good at it. After one day, here is part of what she wrote about her Pet Store experience: Math is not my favorite subject or my best, but I did not do bad today, probably because it was fun. Not saying that regular math is not fun, but I think I got better at multiplication by doing the problems over again because some of the prices are the same and so is my quantity. It was fun, and I am looking forward to tomorrow! (Her whole testimony is here: http://eighthday-kris.blogspot.com/)
To have her say anything math-related is fun is beyond my expectations. Thanks, Sonya.
I just wanted to say a loud “DITTO” because we have had the same results here. If you are thinking about buying this math – DO IT. Although my kids are good at math, they have never enjoyed it until now. They actually look forward to seeing what happens in the business every month. It is definitely the best math we have ever bought.
We are using as a supplemental resource right now. My 11 and 10 year old kids are working on long division in their regular book. I give them the Business Math for review and sharpening of their adding, subtracting, and multiplying skills. To us, this is a fun way to keep practicing those things. They are going through it quickly doing one month of business per week.
When they finish with it, I will probably give it to my 7 year old as her main curriculum. I will have to hand-hold her through it and go very slowly teaching her new things as she needs them.
This is good to know. I am planning to use the Pet Shop book for my 11y old this fall. We will be doing other things during the summer and when we are back in our M-F school routine Friday’s are being planned as Pet Shop day! She was dragging in math by the end of this school year so we came up with this plan so she would have something different to look foward to each week.
