I had great success these last few days getting my five year old, Lottey, to sew yo-yo’s! She’s not quite ready for other sewing projects, and was very eager to try her hand at something, so this was the perfect starter project. I attached them onto a fleece scarf we cut for her friend’s birthday. I just thought I’d share for inspiration! I find this age a bit challenging for handicrafts since they really want to do so many things, but aren’t always quite ready yet for many projects.
We haven’t yet, but I think my mother in law is getting her one of those kits for Christmas! I just got some really lovely large stamps, so I think our next project will be Christmas cards.
My Mother-in-Law is a very crafty lady and taught my daughter to make these. She has made bookmarks and necklaces out of the yo-yo’s. She also has a quilt that her Grammy made for her out of them. They are very versatile and a good first craft 😉
I wanted to add here, that if anyone has read Lessons at Blackberry Inn (I know many of us here have), that these are the yo-yos that are taught at the tea in the book that Carol’s sister in law has!
