Misty – it is a years course from start to finish – 9th grade would be a good time to do it, and it can be classed as an Introduction to Literary Analysis on your transcript – you would need to add grammar if you want to use it as a stand alone credit for high school – if your children have already done a grammar course and are competent in it, then that would be ok. We did it over two years as an elective and did other language arts as well. This is the course we are talking about
You would need to buy the curriculum and the books with the correct ISBN to make sure it lines up with the curriculm – Amelia Harper explains it all on the link above. It is a very interesting course, and very useful. Hope that helps.
Yes you do need the teachers guide because it has the answers in it as well as lots of good info. Writing in a notebook is more than doable, that is what we did. Linda
Thank you for all your helpful suggestions. These programs look really good. Dd said she like the idea of he Lord of the Rings one. She is currently reading one of the books. I will look into these, pray about it and talk to dd about it.
We’ve used Lightning Lit for Lit Analysis and Writing since 7th grade. Christy is now in 11th grade. This fall she took an advanced Comp & Grammar class at the public school and got an A in it. I didn’t make her do much writing while she was taking that class but she still did a lot of reading at home. http://www.hewitthomeschooling.com
