Writer's Inc resource or Write Source 2000

I’m looking into these resources as a writing reference. Anyone have either of these and care to share your opinion?
I use the Writer’s Inc. as a resource for me in my teaching. It’s come in handy when using Grammarland with the chilldren this year. Eventually, I expect them to look up in it themselves.

I have Writer’s Inc (haven’t used it yet with dc as he’s only 6!) but I used it in school myself and kept it, and found it easy to understand, good examples of exactly what is expected for different pieces (ex. letter to the editor).
Add-on question about using the book as a teaching tool:
Is this something that can be shown to kids as they are learning to write narrations? Or would it be stifling to children learning to write their thoughts with unnecessary regulations of formal writing? I want my older kids to have some good written examples, but I don’t want to hinder them at the same time.
Not sure if I’m making sense. 🙁
