My son got into a co-op this year and we are going to try it out and see how it goes. I chose it because of the specific classes that it offered. Last year, 1st grade, we did artist study, hymn study and composer study and he watched the free Spanish videos from SC. For each of these classes he will be with 1st and 2nd graders. This is what is listed under each 50 minute class time.
1.Art Class- Students will learn different techniques and art mediums while studying various famous artists. An optional field trip to the Art Museum will be included during their study. Students will also have their own Art Exhibit at the end of the year.
2. Spanish Class- Our students will learn basic Spanish. We will be using The Complete Book of Spanish for grades 1st – 4th. For 5th -6th we will be using the curriculum Juntos Uno. Students will have opportunity to play games, learn songs, and have conversations in Spanish.
3. Music Class- This class is designed to develop music appreciation in each student. This will include a study of various instruments, composers, and styles of music as well as a wealth of opportunities to experience music through singing, dancing, and playing instruments.
Would you do more than this for each of these subjects? Or consider this enough for music study and artist study? I am probably still going to do hymn study, because I know that it is not included.
Just wanted to get some feedback and see what others may or may not add to their co-op experiences.
