Would like input: Should I cont. w/LfC A or just go directly to Latin Alive 1?

I have a small dilemma: I had bought the LfC A materials two years ago, when I had originally planned to start my son in Latin, but I ended up not doing it; he was 10 then, but next year, he’ll be 13 and I think too old for the elementary-based LfC. The target “grade” is 3rd-5th.

So my questions are as follows:

    1) have him use LfC A this one year (his 13th year starting in the fall) and then begin Latin Alive 1 in his 14th year and continue thereafter in the series for 4 years (8th-11th).

    2) sell the LfC now and start him – according to recommendation – onto Latin Alive! in the fall when he’s 13.

I’d do First Form instead, but I want classical pronunciation.

    Any thoughts on the matter?

I’m not sure this will be helpful, but my oldest son is 12 and was in sixth grade this year and did LFC A. I didn’t feel like it was too “elementary” for him and I’m thinking we may even do B and C in grades 7 and 8. On Classical Academic Press website, it is listed for grades 4-7. My son does not struggle in any area and is academically strong, and I didn’t feel like it was too babyish (for lack of a better word) and provided enough of a challenge.

    Thanks, that is very helpful.

For your situation, I did read before that CAP said an older child could go from LfC B into LA 1.

Oh, that’s good to know! Thanks!
