work from home

Does anyone have any advice/experience with part time work from home jobs?  I am thinking virtual assistant or writing blog posts.  I need to supplement right now as my husband’s work is not following through on the promised raise for extra work responsibilities and our oldest two girls are at high levels in ballet which translates to traveling for auditons, festivals, and summer intensive training programs which cost more than I could ever have imagined!

I am curious about time commitments for such jobs, how one is paid, and how one finds such work.
