I’m sure over the years this has been a topic , so any help will be greatly appreciated…….as my husband just recently surprised me with divorce plans and I don’t have a college degree. Are there any suggestions for working from home? I have a special needs son with whom I am currently teaching material that ranges from 4th to 6th grade level; he is 13 this year. Thank you in advance for your assistance.
Hi Laura. I am so sorry that you are having to go through this. I will be praying for you today.
I get a lot of emails about becoming a medical transcriptionist. They also have workshops for this at my state homeschool convention. Go to FPEA.com and search through their workshops from last year and you should be able to find the workshop.
Many homeschool moms are able to make a good income through maintaining an active blog.
I know Old Schoolhouse Magazine has advertised for salespeople to work from home.
I have done different things over the years. Working for a call center, running a bookkeeping business, watching a friend’s twins, and now I sell natural/organic products from Lemongrass Spa.
Some questions to help you brainstorm and narrow down your options… Do you have anything you enjoy doing or do as a hobby now? Any skills you have learned or perfected over the years? You may be able to find a job doing one of your hobbies/skills or possibly start a business. Do you need to make a part-time or full-time income? How many hours can you work? Do you plan to homeschool while working? Are you able to leave home for any of the work time or do you need to be able to do it exclusively from home? Hopefully all the questions aren’t overwhelming… 🙂
Lemongrass Spa (the company I am a consultant for) is always looking for consultants. If you are needing an immediate full-time income you may want to look at something else. The potential with LGS is huge as it is “newer” even though it has been around for years. I am super excited to have found a company that I can have the flexibility to stay home and homeschool while growing a full-time income+. I am so sorry to hear this and I will be praying for you! Trusting that you will find direction and comfort during all of this.
I can relate all too well with your situation. My husband left us 5 years ago (we haven’t seen or heard from him since). I have 5 children and times were TUFF! However, I am here to tell you that you WILL make it through this! GOD IS WITH YOU!!!!
I was forced to seek help from government assistance, that was a humbling experience. To make ends meet in the beginning, I sold Premier Jewelry (a direct sales company). I choose them because you make 50% of your sales and you get paid first! I worked very hard and was able to make it for several years. God then gave me a job working from home as a secretary for a small family owned business I met through our homeschool co-op. In addition, my children and I clean an office building on the weekends. It has taken me approximately a year to adjust to working from home answering the telephone and homeschooling. But again, it can be done 🙂 and we are doing great!
My heart is with you as you transition into this new lifestyle. After years of battle, I began to receive child support. Make no doubt about it, I would not make it if I did not receive child support. That is what pays our rent and my other jobs pay utilities and everything else. I hope this helps you. I’m praying for you as I write this! If you have any more questions, I am here to help you!
