Looking for books on women athletes who hold there faith. I have found many with guys but I wanted to add at least 2 in there about women. Any suggestions?
Obviously not a woman, but I found this fascinating…
“Retired NBA player Dikembe Mutombo is a devout Baptist who was born in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and has devoted most of his life to humanitarian work there.
He’s a spokesman for the international relief agency CARE and has worked for the United Nations Development Program.
Mutombo was invited to the 2007 State of the Union Address and was specifically referred to as a “son of the Congo” by then-President George W. Bush. “
Here’s one, but she’s not Christian. Not sure if that matters:
“LPGA star Morgan Pressel is only 17, but she’s already one of the best female golfers in the world.
Pressel is Jewish and has said that her faith plays a huge part in her life; she even met her first boyfriend in Bible class at the private Episcopalian high school she attended.”
And one more woman:
“American track and field phenom Allyson Felix is the daughter of a Christian pastor and isn’t afraid to talk about her faith.
At the London Olympics in 2012, Felix is expected to meet or exceed her multiple gold medal winning performance at the Beijing Olympics, but she says her main goal in life is becoming more “Christ-like” and that everything else is secondary. “
All the quotes are from bleacherreport.com, fyi.
HTH!
Ooh, one more quote with lots of names – from fca.org:
“London Olympics
Christian athletes dotted the rosters of several nations’ Olympic teams in London. Some Christ-followers wearing Team USA’s stars and stripes included Allyson Felix and Sanya Richards-Ross (track & field), Tamika Catchings and Maya Moore (women’s basketball), Christa Harmotto (women’s indoor volleyball), Missy Franklin (women’s swimming), Gabby Douglas (women’s gymnastics) and Tobin Heath and Lauren Cheney (women’s soccer).”

He is expected to teach us at least 2 new games we can play as a family. Family the key word that all ages can participate (mom & dad with the 2yr old). Read 4 bio’s on athletes. Watch a few films (Champions of Faith and The Final Season so far – it’s fun and educational). Also, he is going to have to watch at least 1 or 2 real games on TV or close by.
It’s been a good way to learn a bit about different sports and not make him feel like this is all there is to life. We are not a sports family so it’s enough for us.
