I can’t tell from the sample pages whether I need this resource or not, so I thought I would ask here. I know what resources I will use this year… all of SCM’s with additions from Ambleside. (I was AO for 6 years and am have finished one year of SCM.) I want to make sure I have this all laid out before the year begins, i.e. which weeks I need to add specific AO resources.
Does “Planning your CM education” have forms that would help with this, or should I just do it on my own?
Planning Your CM Education is one of the best resources I have used and includes various forms and templates to really help you to put the whole plan together right down to your daily schedule. You can do it yourself, but if you are new to homeschooling or CM, then this is the perfect place to start.
I use Planning Your CM Education to map out a combined AO and SCM year, along with Truthquest. I recreated the worksheets in Excel so that I could add lines and make edits as needed. The forms that have you break down the subjects into the number of days necessary to teach all the listed resources helps me see if I’ve added too much.
This plan takes you from big picture (scope and sequence) and guides you down to manageable chunks of planning, even down to the day. It gives different examples of how to implement the same material on a day-to-day basis based on certain life situations.
If you are already comfortable with writing your own lesson plans, then this guide will probably not be helpful, unless you’d like to have examples of what CM-style plans look like. If the planning task is daunting to you, then I think it is a worthwhile purchase. I’m in my 3rd year of writing plans using this guide, and I still refer back to it.
