This is my first year homeschooling officially. I feel like I’ve been planning forever… I might have an obsession! Since its my first year, I suppose I have had a lot of decisions to make about how (coming to the CM philosophy), choosing what path/goals for my children, what books to use, a schedule that might work, budgeting, etc. I’m hoping now that I have some of these things figured out, next year won’t take me so long to plan/decide. Am I right? I have enjoyed planning and putting it all together, but I don’t necessarily like the time it has taken this year. I started looking at CM’s method when my oldest was 2 (early years/habits), though not as in depth, and now she is 6! Once I find something that works, I stick with it, but I can research like a fiend. I realize I may have to change some things based on what works for my daughter and our family as we progress through this first year and subsequent years, but next year will be simpler in comparison I’m hoping?? Lol
It definitely gets better as far as planning. I spent hours and hours researching everything the first year (we just finished our second year).
This year only one subject (grammar) I had a hard time figuring out. I might need to do a little more next year w/my than 2nd grader and my older ones getting close to high school but found pretty much what works for us I think!
I am already done planning and ordering for next year. I like to do it ahead so I don’t have to think about it during the summer!
Yes! My planning is very simple now that we use SCM handbooks for Bible/history/geography. Subjects like math, writing, grammar, Spelling Wisdom are just do the next thing. I pick lit books from here and AO and we just start the new one when done with old. Those are the core subjects for us. The arts aren’t too difficult yo plan now. But I remember the days when it was much more challenging. You’ll find a groove and it will get easier as you go! And your kids will get more independent, which helps, too:) HTH some, Gina
