I jjust wanted to chime in. I have lap boards and they are awesome! We use them daily. Kids will draw a narration on them. Kids use them for scratch paper for math. Kids use them to with spelling words when asked to put them in alpha order and then they copy for hard copy. I found that the regular dry erase markers wipe right off, but I bought some dry erase map markers from Sonlight and those require a spray to come off, so I can add lines to mine when needed or place value columns, etc. We use Handwriting without Tears for penmanship taught cursive last year to my daughter and will teach son this year and I used it loads for letter formation practice along with a chalkboard slate.
The other markers (ones that require spray) are great for lefties btw, since they tend to smear the other off when they try to write.
I use one to list words from our readings that the kids do not know to help with vocabulary / definitions etc. I usually give them a verbal if they ask for one during the read, but helps me to remember to discuss after and look up any that they have ?’s about.
I will write any reminders on one for the next day.. I find it handy to keep around during the day like a big post it note. HTH
great ideas! And it’s good to know about the markers that require spray. Are there certain brands that require spray? Or “code words” on the packaging that indicate the need for spray to clean off certain markers?
