I have a 12 and 14yr.old and just starting with CM. The 14yr.old has the maturity level of the 12yr.old.
There is the “new” set and the older one Laying Down the Rails. How are they different and which one would be most applicable for my situation? I don’t have very much time. They were not taught with texts but just did alot of reading whether living books or encyclopedia. We haven’t had structured learning really but looking forward to doing CM. The 12yr.old spells and writes well just from reading. We haven’t done any narrations before.
It has only been a few months since I stumbled upon the CM method. Shortly after that, I found this “Simply Charlotte Mason” website. I purchased the “All Day Seminar” which included “Laying down the Rails” and I also purchased “Planning your Charlotte Mason Education”. These DVD’s and books are worth every penny I spent. They are extremely helpful and informative. After watching them, I felt ready to jump in and begin our family’s personal journey with CM. As a matter of fact, I have completed my planning and will begin in July. Sonya is an excellent speaker and is so gentle in her approach of helping new CM moms.
Is there a book for Laying Down the rails? I’m much more visual. I love to highlight and summarize to help me remember. Is this what I need to help me with “boundaries” for the girls so they know what to expect and if I have discplinary issues or to keep them motivated and on track?
I purchased the All Day Seminar set that included the “Laying Down the Rails” book and DVD. I believe the cost was $54.95. It was cheaper to buy the set rather than individually. I definitely recommend getting the printed book. There is a lot more info in the book that is not on the DVD. Like most of the other SCM books, the margins are wide and have plenty of room to make notes and write down ideas for your homeschool. I hope this helps.
