I just posted a long science question that I can’t wait to hear everyone’s response too! 🙂 In addition to my question and if I go with a CM science with living books can anyone recommend what I can do in the Fall that will carry me through the full year? I will have a 9 yr DD and 6 yr old DS and I would LOVE to do science together as a family if I can rather than read science to him and have her do it on her own. Although, I guess that wouldn’t be awful, she does need to be more independent in her studies, right? She could just narrate to me?? But in any case, what would your recommendations be?
Pandia Press is another option for a framework with lots of experiments to go along. Just bite-sized bits of information at the first level (which both your children would be) and a lot of book suggestions for more reading…but you could just use the library and choose a couple of books to go along with each topic.
If you don’t mind it slightly more textbookish – I really love ‘Science in the Beginning’ by Jay Wile. It has a little experiment/demonstration each day, then the text explaining it in a very conversational style, and then 3 levels of questions (discussion or notebooking type things, just a couple per level)… And it is designed to be done as a family (which is why the different levels of follow-up).
