I am looking for the history book that will cover the resurrection to reformation time period. Any suggestions? New to CM and need help.

    For what ages?

Will this be the “spine” and/or as a read aloud or independent reading by a child?

It would be the base of my curriculum. sCM has many books listed under the “history”section on the website. I am a little unsure of which one to choose. We are using another curriculum that will take us p until Jesus crucifixion. I need a book that begins with the resurrection..

Does that make sense. I have a 10 and 12 year old.

We used Mystery of History as our spine for that time period, but there are many quality living books that could be used as your base.

Have you looked at the Family Guidebook from SCM for Module 3? If you go to the curriculum guide and click on History, you can select the book and see a sample with the Table of Contents, etc… I love the SCM resources and would have used them if I had discovered them sooner.

Most of the curriculums we have looked at call this period the Middle Ages, or the Medieval period – even though it begins (really) with the Book of Acts. I think MFW calls it Rome to the Reformation, but it is basically from 33AD – 1550AD.

Hope you find a wonderful base for your studies!

Ok, I think I understand….. The books that are listed in the “history” part of the website are the guides and I have to get the books that go along with that specific guide, correct? Right now we are studying the time period of 4004bc- 29ad. I need to pick up from that point with the guide I order from here. So would that be the Middle Ages one that is listed on this website? Sorry to keep asking. I want to get the right thing

Yes, I believe you would be looking for Module 4.  If you were using the SCM Module 4 guide you would need the books listed under Family, and then the ones under Grades 4-6 (or whatever grades your children will be in next year).  If you didn’t want to use their particular schedule you could skip the guide, just get the books to read and go at whatever pace works for your family.  Oh, and it does note that the spines for that year are the two ‘Famous Men… ‘ books.

    Hope that helps.  🙂
