How do I know which Aesop’s Fables to get?  Which one’s are “dumbed down” are which aren’t.  I’m looking on paperbackswap and just looking at the cover I have no clue which one to get.  There is a “Comlete and Unabridged Classic”, 2 different “Dover Classic”, a “Children’s Classic”, and several that just say Aesop’s Fables.  They are published anywhere from 1963-2003 and some that don’t say.

    Thanks for your help!

Ambleside Online recommends the one by Milo Winter – I’ve been using it (from the library) and it seems very good and complete…

The Complete and Unabridged Classic is probably really good….

We also have the Milo Winter version; it has close to 150 of the fables and has the most wonderful artful illustrations.

One of Dover’s is Milo WInter’s.YOu can dowload for free like above, or if you like a hardcover book in your hands, or want it solid enough to be passed down through the family, Barnes and Nobles has the hardcover version as low-priced used versions:http://search.barnesandnoble.com/The-Aesop-for-Children/Aesop/e/9781566192927/?itm=3&USRI=aesop%27s+fables+barnes+%26+noble+classics+series

My children still read through it at ages 9.

Can’t help you decide, but the Aesop version by Ann McGovern may be mine! I requested it, then realized I had enough fables already for the year, so I relisted it. I didn’t have a problem with the writing, though.

I have this one that I got from Amazon.  It has a CD which my son loves.  He is extremely auditory.  And it is illustrated by Milo Winter.
