  • I know that the MEP we are using for math (level 1) mentions some about calendar but I am looking for advice regarding whether we should do calendar notebooks or ?? to instruct our children in months, days, etc.  We have 1 6 year old and an 9 year old and a 10 year old(we are adopting the 2 older kids from Latvia and they are just learning English).

    Thanks!

    These look really neat! http://www.flickr.com/photos/tracyu/5487552998/in/photostream/

I’ve been trying to get my oldest writing more and it looks like a non-intimidating space for her.  I also love the fruit stickers on the side.  Laughing

I made the kids calendar books (binders) They fill it out every day, write the day/week/month. Make the day with money. I can not link on my tablet but I found a blog with all the printables. My kids really like it and it and it helped them understand days/months and having to wait for things like Christmas and Birthdays. They also log when the loose their teeth and the weather.

My kids like to do this type of thing in the early years so we go with it. It is also fun to see their progression over the year in skill of writing. At the end of the year the binder becomes their “portfolio” with samples from the entire year. It works out really easily and fun too.

As they get older I really like the idea of the linked one above. They could “log” something for each day. Something they did, heard, important event. It could be really fun, especially as they get older to look back on.

The calendar notebooks look like they coiuld be fun. When my DD was learning this we were using Saxon Math K & 1 and each day the lesson would start with the “Meeting Book”. The Meeting Book had a calendar to fill in the date, review the months, days, seasons. You also went over weather, temperature, time, and money. I like the calendar notebook idea and making the whole learning experience more their own.
