I have been enjoying using Laying Down the Rails for Children so very much. We have went through all of the lessons for giving our attention and I do see that my little ones are growing in giving their attention. I feel like this is such an important habit that I do not want rush on if we should spend more time on this habit. How do I know when is the right time to move onto to working on developing another habit? Also, since we are done with our lessons in LDR is there any other resources that I could use as lessons/discussion points to keep working on the habit of attention?

    Hi, Tina –

I’m so glad you’re seeing progress in your children with that all-important habit of Attention. It will be something that you will want to continue to practice, but after a good 8 weeks of focus on it, go ahead and start working on another habit. Keep an eye on the habit(s) already formed, but don’t wait for perfection before adding another one. You can always come back and do another focused season on Attention later, if need be. But go ahead and start working on another habit so the children won’t get tired of the same focus month after month after month after month. Hold them responsible for practicing what they’ve learned and continue adding to their “character-house.”

Sonya, This is so very helpful and the exact advice I needed to feel okay with moving on without having perfected a habit. Thank you so much for your thoughts and for the wonderful resource(LDTR) to use to practically work on habits with my little ones.
