I have a 4th, 3rd and 2nd grader. What should I use for daily copywork? I cannot buy things easily as I am living in Nicaragua. What kinds of books would be recommended to use for copywork for these ages? Thanks a million for any help given!

I’ve never bought anything to use for copywork. I either write out Bible verses or nursery rhymes. However, if you’d rather have something premade, check out Currclick.com. They have tons of copywork, some free, some for purchase. But all of it is in electronic download form.

    There are also these sites:

I have never bought formal copywork materials. I simply carefully write out a word or sentence in the beginning for them to copy. Then when they’ve become “fluent” and can basically write all their letters on their own well and without help, They pick a book, I open it up and find a sentence for them to copy. I do the same when I’m teaching them cursive. They like to pick the book! But I reserve the right to pick the sentence so I can choose one that has things that they need practice on.

I’ve liked using some vintage books that are free at Google books.  A favorite has been The Modern Speller by Kate Van Wangeren.  There are a few volumes of this available.  I like that it is divided by years, spelling words are syllabized (I don’t think that’s an actual word.  :>)  and the selections emphasize worthwhile subjects such as historical events or character qualities.  Some of the selections are outdated, but most are relevant.

We use bible verses, poetry (short poems or 1 verse at a time), hymns (part or all of 1 verse depending on the length) nursery rhymes, character qualities & a line or two from our current Literature pick.  Eventually I will include longer passages from books and longer poems.  I have her do it all in a composition book so papers don’t get lost and it’s really easy to see progression that way too.  🙂

    Hello There,

While it looks like you got some great responses to your question I have one for you. : ) My family is moving to Nicaragua next month. (Actually, we’re driving and probably won’t arrive until early March.)  I homeschool Charlotte Mason style. Wondering where in Nica you are?

    Kindly,

    Katie
