Misty, aren’t there some things you can lay over the page that make it bigger? Like I see sometimes in atlases? Have you ever asked him how much he thinks he may be able to read in xxx-minutes and see if he can do it (with a narration, of course, so he’s not blowing through it). Since he’s only 10, it might be hard to find some appropriate ones, but you may be able to find some large print books at the library. I also think that when we can get a hardback versus a pb, the printing is likely to be larger. I’m looking at some of our books, and the difference between double-spaced and single-spaced seems like it could make a difference. Some of the Lamplighter books are rather large and spaced nicely, as are the old Landmark books. Sorry, no specific book recommendations here. Are his phonics pretty good? We use Victory Drill Book as our reading program, but I’ve noticed that it is also used to build speed. I’m sure there are other programs out there as well (maybe even from the library).
Blessings,
Cindy
