We choose Grandma Moses as our artist.  The kids learned that she didn’t paint until she was older….(I could give more details but won’t in order to keep it short)

Now my 6 year old has decided she wants to buy a german shepherd puppy and she needs to earn money, sooooo she has decided to start painting pictures using waterpaint.  When she has enough complete, she is going to have a big yard sale to sell them at.  She got this idea from Grandma Moses, she said.

Gotta love what they take away from these lessons!!

I love this! It’s great to see connections our kids make.

As a side note- i plan to study Grandma Moses with my children next year. Do you have any resource suggestions?

Too cute…although I’m not sure I’d be okay with a German Shepherd.  lol

Kristina, we used Getting To Know the World’s Greatest Artists book on Grandma Moses.

Kristina, for our study I just pulled a brief biography off the internet and read it.  I used this one http://diyhomeschooler.com/grandma-moses-a-mini-unit/

Then I got the book Grandma Moses 25 Masterworks by Jane Kallir from the library.  It is a huge (14.5”x 10.5 ”)book but the paintings are much better than the laminated ones I bought off ebay.  The kids pick one picture and read the authors description of it.  The book has a biography in it, I had already used the link above so we just skipped that part of the book.

I had actually checked out a few books about Grandma Moses, but the pictures in this particular one were really nice due to the enlarged size.  It is probably one I will try to purchase in the future.

Next week, I probably let the older kids pick a picture from the book and try to recreate it with whatever art supplies they want to use.

This is the first artist study they haven’t complained about.  They don’t care much for the ones back in the renaissance era.  My kids are dd11, ds9, dd6, by the way.

    Hope that helps,

    Paula

    Holly,

Does Getting To Know the World’s Greatest Artists book on Grandma Moses have art projects included? Thanks! Lisa

No, it’s just a short biography.  I like them because we can read them in one sitting.
