Cars. Cars. Cars. Trucks. Cars. Trains. Cars. 😉

Also puzzles, sometimes coloring, looking at books/being read to, playing outside, or playing with his sisters (depending on what they are doing.)

    But my son isn’t really a typical rough-and-tumble boy…he’s a lot quieter/less active.

    For what it’s worth. =)

When my younger son was 4/5 he played outside almost all day. He was always on a hunt for bugs or other creatures. He liked to climb trees, too.

Indoor fun – he liked building his train set and building forts.

I have had several 4/5 year olds (currently on my 4th and 5th, both of which are boys). Favorites here:

    Duplo

    Lego

Yahtzee Jr. (we have a Toy Story 3 version)

    Playing outside

    Wooden trains

    Magnetics or Magneatos

    Candyland

    Chutes and Ladders

Basketball (we bought a Fisher Price hoop that adjusts between 4-6 feet tall and have it in the boys’ bedroom, plus we have an old one outside too).

Magnetic puzzles with a fishing pole (Melissa and Doug has some)

    Perplexus Jr.

    Coloring

Scissors and Glue Sticks with lots of paper

Gardening (aka digging in the dirt)

my 4 year old loves to scavange through our recycling bin to make things…just giving him a pile of junk will keep him busy for hours.

    helping in the kitchen

working with dad on a house project

    Legos

    audio books

    playdough

I find watercolor paints are much easier to manage/clean up than poster paints

Cut a door in a small cardboard box and let him make a home for a favorite toy

Cardboard. My 5yo is obsessed with cardboard. Cutting it into shapes (with help, of course), drawing on it, building with it, pretending things, etc. So whenever we go to a big box store that has those giant bins of free boxes, he makes a beeline to it and carefully inspects each box to see which is the best one for his purposes. When we bring it home, he gets out his markers, and I don’t see him for a couple of hours.

Cars, trucks, all ball games, some pretend play with sister involving forts and fire rescues, puzzles and games, and all video game stuff he can get his hands on. (not very much)
