I just recieved our annual e-mail from our co-op asking about co-op class ideas for next year.
I co-teach a Home Economics class which is going great, but they’ve taken away the kitchen so that’s out for next year for sure!
I am looking for ideas as far as what class(es) you teach and what curriculum you use? I’m looking to teach lower grades K-3rd and the class periods are only an hour long and it’s one day a week.
I’m trying to compile ideas – see this page for some ideas.
Currently, I teach Thinking Citizens, a topical current events discussion based class. I also teach an optional grammar and writing class on a separate day using Analytical Grammar and Beyond the Book Report.
I will add that I am the leader of a 25 family CM co-op. We offer 3 blocks of classes. Two are electives and range widely from Medieval Siege Weapons to Art to Phys. Ed to Caring Quilts to Think!Team Build to _____. The other block is our CM feast and we all cover the same material in Forms (age groups similar to what CM used in her schools). In feast, we cover artist/picture study, composer study, poet study, and nature study. In addition, we have Morning Matins where we have hymn and folk song study, poetry, family share time, and solfege.
Becca, it’s a small part of Matins and one mom leads it. She’s very musical and just leads everyone in a bit of practice each week. She isn’t using any specific resources, but Here are some links she’s added to our website to help us non-musical ones.
Christie, what is the Think/Team build to ________ class? I tried to look on the list ideas and the link to the Instant Challenges grades 1-3 wasn’t working.
Thanks!
