What do you all do when you have read the books, but plan on using them in a few years for the next “batch” of kids? For example, the picture book on Abraham Lincoln, Robert E Lee, and the Light and the Glory series for children. I will be using these when we restudy American history in another 4 to 6 years (our kids range from 9 yrs to infant). Do I put them on the bookshelf where kids will pick them up and read them every once in a while? or do I box them up so they won’t be read until they are needed for school again?
I had mine all scattered through my book shelves. A few weeks ago I pulled them all out, sorted them into boxes according to time period, labled them and stored them on high shelves in the closet. I had run out of room on the book shelevs, so now I have room to go get more. ;-D
Mine are just on the shelves, but I have resorting by time period on my to-do list. I dont’ think I’ll box them up b/c I don’t use cardboard here. We are in an area prone to brown recluse infestations and they love cardboard boxes. Also we sometimes find silverfish in our house and their favorite food source is paper and the glue in books!
Mine are just on bookshelves…my dc don’t really go to those shelves but to the books in baskets on the floor. They have shelves in a hallway that have their items for this year stored, so basically I don’t box any up for the future. If I did that, I would totally forget what I had. But that’s just me.
Both bookshelves and boxes and crates. By time periods or subjects ex. (art). Books we liked stay on the shelf. Twaddle (given to us) or less liked books we get rid of (usually donate).
Mine are like Carla’s – by time period (or topic). They are shelved together but sometimes they move shelves. I have a shelf upstairs where I keep the current stuff I’m using and move it back downstairs (basement bookshelves) when we’re done and move the next batch up.
Oh, keep them out and available to the children. Sometimes they go back to look at something later on. Sometime I go back to look at them, too.
I have purchased some books ahead that are too old for my children now and I have them boxed in a plastic tote in the closet. I made a list first so I would avoid buying duplicate books I had forgotten about.
If the book isn’t so great or if it’s twaddle, we get rid of it.
