Doing some comparisons and price gauging, and RS has so many manipulatives offered and sets, I’m not sure what I need! I do have several manipulatives already, but I’m not sure which ones I need for RS Level A & B. Can someone help me out with this? Seems the sets have everything, or most of it, together, but you can also buy the manipulatives separately. This seems better for me, but then I don’t know which books or whatever to get. Is the “Lessons” book the teacher’s manual? Or is there a separate one I am missing? Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
Each level has a Lessons book and a worksheets book. Yes, the Lessons book is like a teachers manual, and you don’t need to rebuy it for each student. The worksheets book is consumable. There is also a Level A&B Appendixes book… you don’t need to buy it and I don’t think it is in the kit…. but it has the pages in the Lessons book that you are told to photocopy, so that you don’t need to photocopy it.
The best deal if you need both level A and B would be……
Get the Level B Kit….which comes with all the manipulatives, teacher book and workbook….
Level A Lesson book
Level A workbook
an extra abacus [recommended that each child have one especially if they play any of the games together]
All the manipulatives you need for Level A are included in the Level B kit….you don’t need to double up on any of the manipulatives except an extra abacus.
Unless you can find the Level B kit used…it’s cheaper to buy it as a kit thru RS than to try and buy the items individually.
You might be able to find Level A lesson book/teacher book and abacus used….
Yes, the kit would be cheaper…. I gave the list because you said you had a number of manipulatives already…. so you could figure out if it is cheaper to just get the manipulatives you are missing, or if it is still better to get the kit.
OK, been doing lots of looking. I noticed there is a Yellow is the Sun book as well as the CD. Is that needed for levels A & B, or is it more “Pre” Level A (which I’d be doing with my almost 5yo)? Or is it just plain not needed?
A smaller version of the math balance is available. I bought one from Rainbow Resource. Have you checked for a used kit on http://www.homeschoolclassifieds.com? That is where I bought my MUS blocks and there was a listing for a RS kit when I bought MUS last winter. So, you could check it a few times per week and watch out for it. The good deals don’t last long on there.
