In the Bible reading from Genesis, John, and Psalms.
In other reading:
Swiss Family Robinson (I’m having fun reading some of the things on the SCM Literature lists that I never read as a child!…particularly those that are available for cheap/free on the Kindle since my sweet hubby surprised me with one about a month ago!)
Charlotte Mason’s original Home Education
Hands that Hold the World (a biography of MA Thomas, who founded a lot of orphanages in India – sort of a modern day George Mueller) This was a free download from here http://onemillionarrows.com/Arrows-Vision/ (scroll down to the bottom for the link)
And with the kiddos (outside of ‘school reading’ and lots of picture books with the toddler) – The Child’s Story Bible and The Boxcar Children Book 1
Goodreads is a kind of modified social-networking site centered around books. The addy is http://www.goodreads.com I am generally not a social-networking-site kind of girl, but if it’s BOOKS . . . lol. I have a list of friends that has proven very, very rich in good reading material. AND one of my teen sons, who is sort of in a non-talking phase (I joke that 90% of his current communications are three words or less), really writes interesting stuff on his Goodreads books. You can maintain different bookshelves, to-read lists, friend lists, and do a bunch of other stuff I never bother with. Although my teenagers also like the book quiz feature, and I have a fun time seeing what they remember from the books they read. I don’t try to have a huge friends list–I have several relatives, and some good friends I’ve made over the years online, who share a lot of my interests. I use the entries kind of like an online book journal, with favorite quotes and stuff like that.
Michelle, I checked out Goodreads and it really looks interesting. Neither am I a “social network” gal, however, I think my 15yo ds would love it, since he’s also a bookworm ! Thanks so much for sharing.
Left Behind, just for fun. Ephesians in the Bible, and Laying Down the Rails. Plus doing SCM Genesis through Deuteronomy, original version. Working through 2nd Term currently. Our CM group is actually starting a Mother Culture group and next month we will be learning how to either crochet or learn how to use the “Nifty Knitter.” I love this idea!
oh, i also recently read Large Family Logisitics, too. Really excellent for a mom of a family of any size…not just large ones. Found it practical and useful and encouraging.
