The refresh button is at the top, maybe up where you type in the web address. Mine looks like an incomplete circle with an arrow on the incomplete end.
I clicked mine, and the forum look changed! The font is bigger and darker, much easier to read.
Just a couple of comments…..it seems as though there is a lot of empty space over to the right of fourm posts and on the topics page as well. The topics page used to have the quick links menu (which I used often to get to the organizer and the curriculum guide) and a search box. I see that there is a search box above the list of topics, and the links are above each page. However, I am wondering if something else will be going in the mostly blank space to the right. Links to our account info & pm’s, I’m guessing?
Why I am bringing this up is that I agree with Misty–the old topics page seemed more condensed and it was easier to see more of the recent posts. Each post on the new topics page seems to use additional lines and spaces.
I also was glad to see the larger font in the forum posts. However, it is still a bit harder for me to read due to the color & contrast. I already have my screen brightness set on “rapidly advancing toward elderly” and yet I find the smaller notations on the screen still a little hard to read.
@Misty, Most browsers have some sort of button to reload the page. It often has a rounded arrow icon.
To start a new thread you have to go the forum topic you want first. You’ll see the forums all listed in the section at the bottom of the forum home page. Once you’re there, you’ll have a form to post at the bottom of the page. We will be making this easier and more like the old forums.
@Sue, We’re still working on exactly what will be in the space to the right. For example, I recently moved forum search over there so it will be available on all pages.
The quicklinks menu will not be coming back because most everything in it is in the menus at the top of every page. The CM Organizer is under the My Account menu. The curriculum guide is under Plan CM. There is a site-wide search at the bottom right of every page. The search I just added in the forum right sidebar only searches the forums.
@abidnginhim, We have to use different software for private messages now so it’s going to be a little while before that is working.
@Laurie, I don’t understand what you mean about having trouble seeing the box where you type. Can you describe what you’re seeing in more detail or e-mail me a screen shot? (doug@simply…)
I think what Laurie means or at least I mean 🙂 is that I can’t really see the “box” it’s so light in color. Also, the text while typing is quite small while once it’s sent is much easier to see.
Agreeing with the mention of ‘seems like a lot of wasted space’.
I just wanted to state as I didn’t above why I liked the more condensed forum posts page – I don’t have a lot of time in the school year to pop over here, and when I do I need to visually scan for things that might be interest to me quickly. The new look does not allow that and sorry to be lazy but I don’t know that I will take the time to scroll down to far on a regular basis and I will probably miss out on much when the forum is moving fast in conversations. I liked the simplified one liner.
Doug – thanks for answering about the ‘where to’ of how to post a new conversation. I just wanted to let you know I think the older version on the top of the ‘posts’ was a quicker way. Again, call me lazy; I will not go through all that trouble of going into the forum and such to do it. Unfortunately, it’s also about time mostly as I live where unlimited internet is not an option so I pay per GB. That said I have to be fast, efficient and quick to make the most of my limited time. :0) Down side to living in nowhere land!
I love SCM and know that change is never easy or perfect. So know I am very grateful for all the hard work you do in keeping this site open and up to date. We are all so very thankful that you listen to each concern and do what you think will be best over all for the site. God bless you and the entire staff at SCM!

We like the more compact view of the old forum better too. This will end up very much like that when we’re finished.
On the old forum there was an outline where you type.
What web browser software and version are you using? (If you don’t know, you can visit http://supportdetails.com and look in the box labeled Web Browser.) I’m wondering if what you’re seeing is different from what I’m seeing.
Doug, the “box” I’m now typing in does have a border around it, but it’s very, very, very lightweight and really hard to see. As in, I’m leaning in to look for it….I’m leaning in….about four inches from my screen….oh, hello, border!
I think it just needs to be a bit heavier, if that is possible.
Goodness, don’t you just love working with all of us visual learners???
I have to confess that I have eyes like Sue’s and some time issues like Misty’s. I did find how to post a new thread, and it wasn’t as complicated as it sounded fortunately. 😉 Sigh – sometimes it is hard to admit that one is getting older. =) I have to remind myself that change is okay, lol.
Doug, I am using Chrome. The box is hardly there and the print is quite light on posted threads, where the words as I am typing here are much darker, larger, and easier to read. I had to zoom out to 150% just to be able to read the forum this morning, and I did have my glasses on. The darker (and larger print) is going to be necessary for me to use the forum comfortably.
Of the two news screens of forum threads, I like the one with less info on it – instead of two people, there is just one listed, etc. Much easier to read.
I think that once we get used to this it will be nice. Thanks for all your work!
