This is about our nature studies for the past couple of weeks. I’m not doing weekly summaries anymore because of lack of time, but I’ll share some other posts when I can.

No weekly summary here either, but we just had a nature study experience and I’ve already blogged about it. I didn’t want to miss this one!

That is one bad little bug 🙂 I remember when I was growing up (in Southern Alabama) that my grandmother called those sting worms. We were all scared to death of them….for good reason I see! Hope he’s feeling better now.

How scary about the bug! A couple weeks ago, we visited the local marsh and saw (as we were leaving) several signs about wild parsnip…apparantly it can cause horrible burns on your skin.  I was so worried that my DD’s had touched it until we could Google it at home.  Luckily they had touched a different plant!

We finally started this week!  This has been such a wonderful week of school…it’s amazing how much time we saved by cutting out busy work!

This week went well.  We celebrated labor day with the family, and Kelsey got her hearing aids Tuesday.  She’s up to about 3 hours a day continous wear, but still takes them out frequently, saying they bother her ears and everything is too loud. That’s actually a nice change to hear, and I’m sure she’ll get used to them. I’ve noticed an instant improvement in her speech, and I hope confidence will follow.  She also continued her dance lessons, which she loves, and we met her cousins in the park for bike riding/playing/nature study 🙂 MUS is going well so far, and she’s enjoying Understood Betsy. For read-alouds we’re using Aesop’s Fables, and (one of my all-time favorites) Heidi.  Excited to start another busy week with my sweet girl. Be blessed!

@Sheraz, it is worse today. UGH. I called the DR. and they said as long as he doesn’t have fever, difficulty breathing, vomiting, etc. to just keep treating as we are: the symptoms. Another dose of benadryl and as I type, he is taking a warm oatmeal bath! He doesn’t have any symptoms except the rash that is now hardened like. Hard to explain but this is what happens to me with mosquito bites. I have always heard that if you get stung by a mosquito and it hardens, you are more allergic to the toxin they inject. I say “stung” b/c the mosquito really doesn’t bite, but rather does sort of sting. Anyway, my husband can be around mosquitos and not swell up, but my whole arm will swell up from one mosquito encounter.

As for my son, whom I’ve been calling the Critter Whisperer for years, might be more cautious now. Tongue out He is handling it well, and at least he is getting some pampering. Tried to talk me out of his math lesson, but I said to try. He did fine with it. I think an afternoon history or science movie might be in order though.

Ewww…the hardening part is weird.  My dd can get a chigger bite and it will swell to the size of a half dollar and get really hard.  She is miserable when this happens.  Benadryl is our friend, too! Wink
