Water Bottles

Our family of 9 drinks a ton of water.  Actually other than milk at breakfast that is all we drink.  No pop, no juice, just water.  We have went through so many water bottles it’s crazy.  Does anyone have a water bottle they have loved.  Easy to clean, comes in more than 1 color, doesn’t spill or leak, and would love one that goes in dishwasher although most dont so not a deal breaker.

I would like to get us all new ones for Christmas so I really want to find a good one.  Here are some things I have found that don’t work for us.  Ones where the mouth piece is 2 pieces (we always seem to loose part of it), straws seem to be tricky to clean if you can’t find the pipe cleaners, and needs to be more than 12 oz or we’re constantly filling them.

Any suggestions, like or dislikes would be great! Misty

We had Camelbaks for a while, but hated cleaning all the parts and inevitably lost some parts. We’ve been using these from Contigo for a year and LOVE them. The paint has peeled from the bottle part, so I suggest plain stainless for that part if it bothers you. Tops are one piece and easy to clean (no dw though), bottles dw safe, insulated to keep cold which is excellent here in FL!

We use these mostly when we go out, so 2-3 times per week. At home, we all have Tervis cups and lids in different designs. We use those every day. They have a lifetime guarantee, too. Tervis aren’t no spill, but if you slide the opening closed, it rarely spills unless it’s a major drop.

We’ve had pretty good luck with the Zulu glass water bottles (lots of colors; lid locks to ‘closed’; easy to clean; no funky taste). We also use the Kleen Kanteen screwtop bottles, but they can taste a bit metallic if the water sits in it too long and they sweat a lot. We have the wide mouth version (which is great for cleaning and icecubes) but wish I’d paid the extra for insulated.

We had a lot of other brands/types but have thrown them all out and only use the Zulu or Kleen Kanteen.

We tried a couple. Metal ones were a pain. We ended up with platic ones by Rubbermaid from Target — easy to wash, dishwasher safe and if they do get lost or broken I don’t care too much because they were cheap. They haven’t broken and it’s been a while though. If it’s not too self serving, my dd made us all water bottle holders and they are a big help cause everyone can carry their own on nature walks and the like. She sells them on etsy:

We use glass bottles w/ silicone wraps. Kids have been using them daily for over a year, and the glass hasn’t even scratched! I love knowing that they’re drinking out of glass. Plus, there’s no plastic or metallic taste. The bottles travel well and fit into backpacks to go wherever we go. I only allow them to be used for water. We got ours at CVS of all places for about $10 each.

    We are using these:

I bought the bottles (which are on sale right now) and then bought the pack of silicone covers. Each of us have a different color. We like them for the same reasons Lindsey mentioned.

I just saw some glass bottles with wraps at Walmart for about $7-9 each.

Sheraz….do the lids just screw off? I’m trying to figure out how those work.

We would manage to break the glass ones and personally we want our water cold, not lukewarm or hot so insulated is a necessity to meet that requirement! We’ve also never had a metallic taste to our water in the Contigo metal ones or a plastic taste in our Tervis ones. To each his own.

We stick them in the frig for coolness or a cooler when we are out. The lids screw off. My 5yo can get it on and off.

I bought a couple of Copco water bottles in a housewares store in our hometown. They are plastic (with a straw), but they are BPA free. While I can’t find one exactly like what we have, I did find some Copco bottles on Amazon. Some of them look just like what bottled water comes in that you buy in the grocery store, but they have a soft grip body. They are also BPA free. Search Copco on Amazon.

We absolutely LOVE our Thermos brand waterbottles – I’m not able to insert links here, but if you go to Amazon and search for Thermos Funtainer, you’ll see the kids’ design.

They’re pricey.  But, I bought 4 (one for each daughter) 3 years ago – and we still use them and love them.  I’ve replaced the straws about 2 times.  (the company sells them for $1 each if you call them.)

I found a  woman’s style at Target 3 years ago and bought it for myself.  I love it!  I’ve also replaced the straw assembly on it.

We use these bottles as our everyday drinking cups.  We too drink gobs of water, and we ALWAYS take them on the go.

We like Kleen Kanteen as well and have never had a problem with metalic taste.  They run through the dishwash great and though I haven’t tried them yet, you can now get smaller size ones with a sippy top on them.  🙂

Thanks everyone who knew there were so many great choices.

I have not had a lot of luck with the metal either.  Tastes weird sometimes.

I do like that you can get new straws for most of them.

So do you like straws or just pour spouts?  I think that’s my biggest question now for the older ones?? hmmm

We love nalgeen. I have the kids sippy cup that don’t leak and then my husband and I use the big ones. I like bottles that hold 32oz so the nalgeen is perfect.

We prefer straws, just because there’s less chance of a big spill.
