Moms who use cloth diapers.. I am wondering what  your favorite way to wash them is, and what you like to use to washh them.

Here’s whY I ask.. I just bough off craigslist 8 diapers of the same brand I am using (bum genius AIO) and they look brand new but the poeple say they have used them for months.  Mine don’t look brand new they look dark and ding like.  Almost like I have been washing them with the rest of our clothes.  Which I NEVER do that they get there own load.

Any thoughts or advice.  Thanks MIsty

I use Allen’s, wash in very warm, rinse cold, extra rinse about once a week, RLR laundry additive once a month to get rid of hard water residue.  We use only prefolds – any synthetics are miserable to wash with our hard water.  Line dry when possible.  If you have hard water that can cause dingy looking diapers.

I rinse, wash, rinse, and dry. I use the military version of all free and clear. It is the most diaper friendly stuff I can get here without mail ordering it.

Maybe they didn’t use them a lot or perhaps they dried them in the sun always or they had a big stash of them?  I have some diapers that are 2 years old.  I don’t worry about it, they are just for bottoms anyway. I have over 40 diapers and they are still gettting worn out. I have been using some form of cloth for 7 years now and I just use them until they can’t be used any more.

Pin Strips and Polka Dots has a lot of laundry info.  It tells you what works best for which diapers.  I always consult her website if I am having issues with my diapers.

I never managed to keep mine looking very good for long! Maybe you could e-mail them and ask how they washed them? (Because I want to know, lol!)

I washed with free and clear detergent and I always add some Arm and Hammer Super Washing Soda (I have hard well water) and did and extra rinse – all warm/hot water. I never used the dryer and hung mine out on a drying rack in the sunshine – it helped bleach them out. I never had issues with residual smells. That’s what worked for me 🙂

I always used All Free and Clear, or homemade laundry soap, and added white vinegar to the rinse in a downy ball (to restore pH) and then I would hang them in the sun.  The hot Texas sun would bleach out anything in just a few hours, so I always had nice white diapers and was able to pass the diapers on in good condition.    HTH Smile

we used charlie’s soap – which needs to be ordered, but they often run great deals with free shipping, and it’s way more affordable then most name brand detergents in the store.  i did: rinse, hotwash, several rinses.  hung dry all synthetics, and dried all cotton in dryer.  we actually use charlie’s for everything.  it’s an amazing product and i love all their stuff.  the charlie’s all purpose cleaner is awesome and a great bargain.  HTH!

I don’t have to wash diapers anymore, but I can second Charlie’s Soap and their all purpose cleaner.  It is wonderful stuff and I use it for my laundry as well.  Highly recommend it.

This has been very helpful.  Where do you get your charlies soap?  Do you have a front load washer?

Or the all free and clear are you talking about just the stuff you’d buy at the store?

    Thanks Misty

free and clear is at the store.  i’ve had mixed results with it.  great results with Charlie’s.  Charlie’s is online, but as i mentioned, often has free shipping deals if you spend a certain amount of money (it used to be just 25$, idk if it still is).  They have fast service, and the nicest customer service I’ve ever dealt with in my life.  I have a top load washer, but Charlie’s can be used in front load, no prob.  http://www.charliesoap.com/  The people and products are great.
