Thanks to all of you who have helped so much so far 🙂  I am trying to decide what to do and need some guidance.  I will try to be as brief as possible….My children are ages 7 and 9 (boy and girl). We have been trying to use Winter Promise American history and science, but are not happy with either one. The reading is too choppy and we are sick of the paper crafts (to be completely honest). On their own, my kids have begun nature studies, they love art, and music, and have really enjoyed the D’Aulaire books: Leif the Lucky, Pocahontas, and Columbus (which did not come with our curriculum 😉 To sum it all up….SCM is a perfect fit for them, and me as the teacher.

I don’t know if I should resell everything and just start over, or try to use what I have and just keep a slow pace for history? We have several books that could be used, but a lot that we will not use.

I don’t think we will be able to use the science since it is so light that we could do one week’s worth of lessons in one day! I guess I could keep using it and just add lots of nature study.

We are on week 6 in Winter Promise LA too, and it is not Charlotte Mason based AT ALL. However, I can’t resell any of it because it is all workbook type stuff that we have partially used. So….I have been just adding in Bible verses for copywork, narration, and some picture studies. That’s about all I can add without overdoing it and I am going crazy trying to schedule it all!

    Help please 😉

Hi Amanda! I recognize you from the WP message boards. I too, was VERY disappointed with my WP purchase. I had Animals and Their Worlds. I gave away the IG, traded some of the books and kept some for future use. For what it’s worth, if I were you I would just sell what you can and use what you can from SCM! I know how hard it is when you’ve spent so much money, but it’s not worth it if it doesn’t work for your family. And sometimes the financial lessons are the ones we remember the longest! I know I don’t have any experience with SCM yet, but it seems like it would bring a breath of fresh air to your life. Homeschooling is hard enough without trying to trudge through something you and your kids hate.

Just wanted to chime in because I feel your pain!! Praise God that our kids are still young enough (my oldest is in K) to benefit from many years with a Charlotte Mason education!!!

Thank you Cheryl Laughing  It makes me feel better just to know that I am not the only one struggling with Winter Promise. I got mine used, so I am not out as much money as I could have been. However, I don’t know how many books I’ll be able to sell since it is the older versionCry

Well, I was going to chime in and say I’m in the same boat.  My oldest is almost 6 and I had to scrap everything I bought from WP.  We only could use a few books, and have collected some used from Amazon off the SCM list.  We are trying to get outside and get our nature study down along with working on habits, especially attention.

Okay.  I’m all ears to hear what others have to say!

Oh WoW!!! All but 2 of the books listed in Module 5 for history are AT OUR LIBRARY!!! I don’t have to spend any money to use this module for history!!! SOOOOOO THANKFUL!!!!!!

Now if I can just sell the other, I will be okay!

Just for an update:  I got my SCM seminar DVDS today (loving them so far!!!!!), posted old curricula on web and have had some “bites”, am trying to “destress and simplify” for the time being. I am beginning to feel so much better already. 🙂

I am working on a schedule and am really excited! (but trying to restrain myself so that I don’t over do any changes too quickly)

Thanks so much for all the support and Thank you, Thank you , Thank you, Sonya for making your seminar available to us to watch at home!

    Amanda 🙂
