Has anyone used Visual Latin and how does it compare to other programs? This is for a mom without any Latin instruction and children ages 9-16.

Sorry, just saw this. My two oldest boys are using this right now. Ages 11 and 12. I have no Latin experience. I can’t compare it with anything else because this is all we’ve used so far. The boys like it and think he’s funny. It’s a challenge for them because they’ve never worked with nomative, genitive, etc. But they are able to get the worksheets done correctly. I try to watch it with them and I’m learning as well. I think it’s a good program, but like I said, we haven’t used anything else. There are several free lessons on the website you can try before you buy.

I have used Latina Christiana and Visual Latin. I think Visual Latin is great. Dwayne is engaging and funny but his approach (hearing and speaking immediately) is a sound. My son loves it and is understanding it. We will be using it along with Lingua Latina this year. I highly recommed this curriculum.

Are either of you using this for HS credits? I really like the look of it? Is this why Clarissa you are using teh Lingua Latina?
This appeals to me as a visual and auditory learner big time!

Is Visual Latin good for high school credit?
In terms of the material it covers, Visual Latin Latin 1 (Lessons 1-30) is good for one high school foreign language credit. By itself, however, it will not provide a full 150 hours of work. Some parents are less concerned about this, but others may want to provide extra supporting materials for upper level high school students. For those who do, we recommend supplementing Latin 1 with Lingua Latina per se Illustrata and Lingua Latina Exercita 1. (The older version of LL without color is the same text and perfectly acceptable.) We have created a free Visual Latin/Lingua Latina Teaching Guide that you can use to match them together over a two-year period. [Note that Lingua Latina is a unique Latin only, college-level book. Visual Latin has been modeled on this book, and in terms of content, teaches exactly the same things.]

So sorry that I haven’t answered. I’ve been out of town and without internet off and on.
As crazy4boys listed above, we are adding the Lingua Latina to deepen the study for a H.S. credit in Latin. I think reading in Latin daily will prove beneficial. I can tell you that my son is already reading pretty well having just used these Visual Latin videos and worksheets. Very good program.
I have not started my younger girls on it (aged 10 and 7) but they have picked up some from listening to the videos while brother (age 17) watches. I heartily recommed this program.
